Dear Angler,

Well, we’ve had one or two obstacles this year but we’re still here!

At the beginning of the year the torrential rain that occurred across the whole country through

January and February had a detrimental impact on the drainage systems across Parklands Farm.

However, with a lot of hard work we managed to hold back the tide (so-to-speak) and future work is

planned for the Spring of this year so that be won’t be impacted by any similar weather issues going

forward.

Then, towards the end of 2024, a film of oil on the lake’s surface (the origin of which remains

unknown) led to a number of dead carp. As a result, we initiated an immediate but temporary

closure of the lake, aerated the water and dealt with the oil. This was the first time since the lake

was first excavated, more than 30 years ago, that any such ‘oil film’ has appeared. Thankfully,

because of the measures we took we were able to limit the number of dead fish to just 12, and we

are very grateful for your understanding in relation to this episode.

On a more positive note, the amount of weed present in the lake has been significantly reduced

having invested in and implemented a weed treatment dye system. This treatment, which is

ecologically safe and has no impact on the fish whatsoever, will continue into 2025 and beyond.

Furthermore, we would also like to thank our members for the efforts in helping to keep the lake

environment free of any litter and rubbish. The improvement has been noted and it is greatly

appreciated.

As you will know, membership is now on an annual basis and lasts for twelve months from the date

of joining. We are pleased to say that the membership fee will remain at £110 for 2025.

Reminders will continue to be sent out when any given membership lapses but please check your

fishing identity cards to made sure your membership has not expired as we will be checking

membership cards more consistently over the course of the year. We would also remind members

that if and when a guest is brought to fish that you inform us beforehand, come to the house and

pay the £10 fee before fishing.

Finally, it can be slippy walking down to the lake at the moment so please be careful.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2025.
